Invisalign retainers or metal ones?

I have had invisalign for 6 months and the retainer they gave me was my last trays.. I asked for a metal retainer but my dentist said he doesn't like those. Which is cheaper and more comfortable? Also am I even allowed to get metal retainers sense I paid for invisalign?

They do discolor. Really bad.





I think I would have rather gotten the metal retainers more. My orthodontist did not give me an option on what i wanted either.
Reply:In my opinion, the metal ones are more cost effective and better. The invisilign ones I have found discolor and are more expensive. Unless you are modeling or something and new clear teeth... lol





Regarding the whether you are allowed - you are allowed to get whatever you want - depends on your insurance and doctors policy I suppose.

Reply:It doesn't matter what your dentist likes, it's up to you. I had metal braces to align my teeth and use a clear plastic retainer (like invisalign) to retain my teeth in their current position. I wish I had went the invisalign route, but at the time those where way more expensive.


I am not sure which is less expensive now, simply ask your dentist. The invisaligns are so much more comfortable, you don't have to worry about your gums becoming all cut up and you can floss easier. Plus you can remove them at any time.


Again, its up to you, your dentist and your insurance (if you are using one) to adjust the price for switching.
