I JUST got INVISALIGN, Please help!?

I just got my lower invisalign today. I had severe crowding in the lower teeth. The first time i got my trays, it didn't fit. 2nd time, didn't work. so my dentist made me get new impressions and the 3rd time, it FINALLY fit. However, it has now been 12 hours since my first tray and it totally hurts! Will this pain go away??

Also- I have read people with severe crowding will not be fixed with invisalign. if that's the case, why would my dentist say it's ok? OR is it a bad sign the dentist couldn't get my first two invisalign trays to fit my mouth? I'm nervous because I have 12 months I need to complete it and I would appreciate if someone who HAS used invisalign would give me some sort of hope or honest opinions wether or not my teeth will be straight one day. I do have 4 buttons on the bottom teeth..

Oh, the trays are not THAT invisible. I still see the saliva inside my trays and on occasion, I get lisp. I am due to start my upper teeth in a month or so, with some slimming.

I JUST got INVISALIGN, Please help!?
As with all orthodontics such as braces and Invisalign, when a wire or Aligner is changed or adjusted, it puts new pressure on the teeth which can sometimes be sore. It should be gone within 24-48 hours and should never be excruciating. I always design my Invisalign cases to move the teeth slowly to minimise the pain but it can get sore especially aligner number 1. The pain will go away!

Invisalign does have its limitations but your dentist or orthodontist obviously feels that your case is treatable with Invisalign. Provided it is designed correctly and the patient follows instructions, Invisalign will defintely work (or the company would go out of business). The most likely reason that your aligners are only fitting on the third go is that the first two sets of impressions were not accurately matching the shape of your teeth. This happens to every dentist sometimes as Invisalign demand highly accurate impressions.

As for the trays being not that invisible, there isn't anything better so just do your best to keep them clean and wear them as much as you can so the treatment goes smoothly and you can get rid of them asap. Good luck.
Reply:I had braces when i was 11 and they worked great....but towards the end of my retainer wearing period i was a little lazy. My teeth shifted a little bit. I went back home and asked my orthodontist what i could do to fix it. I told him I was interested in INVISALIGN. He told me that braces would actually be cheaper and BETTER than INVISALIGN. Maybe you could look someone up in your area for braces. If you have insurance, check with your provider. They might cover some of the cost of braces.

Oh and the pain...it sucks, but it will go away in a day or two. Braces cause that pain when you go get them tightened. Like they say..."It hurts to be beautiful!" :)
Reply:Okay I had invisalign. Actually the pain, while not fun will subside and is actually a sign that they are working. The first 2 trays didn't fit because they are made to push your teeth into the proper alignment so they are stretched from the original impression, your orthodontist was just trying to push them too far too fast. Fear not. I know the saliva thing is SUPER gross, but drink more water and it'll help wash it out. If the trays start to rub your gums you can take a small nail file and rub the edge down a little, but I didn't really like the way my tray felt after I did that so I would suggest you just use the wax they give you for braces instead. As for the overcrowding that was my problem too, it works IF your mouth is big enough for all your teeth, they've just all grown in shoved together, or you have teeth (such as your wisdom teeth) removed. But again don't worry, if you weren't a good candidate for this treatment your orthodontist wouldn't have recommended it to you. You'll be fine, just give it time and take some Tylenol. Good luck!!!
Reply:Very, very normal to be sore with a new tray %26amp; this will be the case every two weeks when you put a new tray in. I would recommend that you take some Ibuprofen or some other type of pain reliever before inserting in the new trays and keep up on it for a day or so. Also, they may seem obvious to you, but that's because they're new and it's very normal for you to have extra saliva in your mouth for the first couple of days. You're body doesn't know that they trays aren't food, and is sending extra saliva to your mouth to disolve them; it'll learn that they're to stay. Sometimes the trays are tough to get in there %26amp; that can be due to poor impressions or just lots of crowding. I'm assumming that since your DDS is doing the Invisalign for you that he thinks it will work for you. Were you able to see on the computer the animation of how Inisalign expects your teeth to move? We try to show our patients what they can expect. Good luck and keep up on that Ibuprofen.
Reply:I have to wear Invisalign too because of crowding for my lower teeth. Note: Before hand I had to wear braces for a year. Right when I got fitted for my first set I told my orthodontist that it was too painful. He recommended putting them only half way on and then while watching tv or something to push them down a little more ever hour or so until they're fully on. This helps lessen the pain. Also you could try putting them under hot/warm water to make them a bit softer and less painful. After a 2-3 days the pain went away for me.

As for the severe crowding I would try to ask your orthodontist for metal braces since they're more effective and quicker. Plus they're less painful in my opinion. %26gt;%26lt; Invisalign will cause excess saliva and can turn yellow if not taken care of. Ick. The lisping should go away once you get used to them in a few days.

All in all, I would talk to your dentist about metal braces. Since he said 12 months for the invisalign sets metal braces may cut your time in half. Hope I was able to help you!
Reply:It's true, if you have severe crowding most likely Invisalign wont work. The pain you are feeling is the periodontal ligaments loosening up. Its kind of like pulling a muscle, it will go away in a couple of days. You can take whatever you take are a headache to help with the pain. It would be best to go ahead and put braces on your lower arch. The dentists may have to re approximate(strip) some enamel on the anterior teeth to get room to unfold the crowding.
