Invisalign question? Help!?

I had just visited the orthodontist. I have perfect teeth other than the fact I have a gap in the front two teeth. Not small but quite noticable. He requested braces for 4 months which will be cheaper and take less time as well as keep the gap closed for sure. I asked about invisalign and he said it would cost a little more and take a little more time, around a year to close the gap. He also said a retainer would have to be worn for a pretty long time at night so gap stays closed. I would liek some opinions as to what you guys think and if you have had gaps and what worked best with you. Also does invisalign work better than braces for my gap problem? Let me know, thanks.

Invisalign question? Help!?
Invisalign will work. It will take longer. And if you do not wear your final retainer at night for long enough the gap will come back. If you decide to take this route you need to be TOTALLY committed to wearing your retainers. The standard braces will close the gap permenantly and alot quicker. Depending on your progress you may need a retainer after they come off as well. As far as what works better, both will give you the same approximate outcome, it is just a matter of how much time and effort you would like to devote to this... My professional opinion, go for the braces, it is quicker, cheaper, and for gaps we try to push it over Invisalign every time. The decision really is yours though. If you do decide on Invisalign wear the retainers religiously and don't lose them. Good Luck and just remember no matter which one you pick, when it is all said and done your smile will be beautiful...
Reply:Just do the real braces for 4 months. I've heard some bad feedback about Invisalign from dentists because it doesn't move the roots of your teeth the same way real braces do. Besides, 4 months versus a year (and more than likely a huge cost difference) would be worth it alone!
Reply:Just go for the braces. They really aren't that bad, and you have less retainer time. Furthermore, the cost will be lower for braces.
Reply:I would just go for the braces, I think they work better. You can choose some different colors or clear for the front teeth.
Reply:Having the same EXACT problem, I know what you are going through. I wore "braces" as a child to close my diastama (or as it is commonly used, "space" or "gap"). I wore them for about 5 years ($2000) then a retainer to "retain" that smile....(your teeth are positioned the way they are by nature and having being forced into another position, they will want to go back to their original position so we use a retainer to try and "trick" them into thinking they belong in the place we have chosen for them)....whew! Anyway, I left for college, lost the retainer in the dining room (did i mention you have to take them out everytime you eat?) so I went without them for a long time. Replacing a retainer was $450 and for a college student let me tell you....anywho, I find myself in the dental field. All of a sudden I wanted that "space" gone but I did not want to walk around the office looking like my teenage patients so I invested $2000 "in office discount" (you will shell out any where from $5000 to $7500 plus the cost of a retainer) to do Invisilign. I wore them for about 7 months (had I not worked in the office it would have been a bit longer) and again, my "perfect smile" is back. Had I gone back to brackets it would have been about $1500 and completed in about 3 months. I said all of that to say this........IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO DO INVISALIGN, DO IT....if you want a quick and inexpensive fix then GO WITH BRACKETS

one more thing, it is healthier to go with Invislign because you have to remove them to brush, floss and eat therefore cleaning better, brackets and flossing does not go together....too complicated.
Reply:We charge $2700 for a limited Invisalign case and the retainer is included.
