Braces Versus Invisalign? Other Condition.?

My daughter needs braces in a couple of months. We've talked to our orthodonist a couple of times about braces. Many of her friends have them %26amp; she turns 14 this September. She has a crossbite, but it isnt too bad. Her teeth are also crowded %26amp; somewhat crooked. She also has a condition where two of her baby teeth haven't fallen out because her adult teeth are moving in her gums. So the surgeon has to attach a chain to them %26amp; move them down. She has her expander as of now %26amp; she's begging for Invisalign instead of metal braces. She has a small mouth and she thinks she'll look funny in regular braces. I'm not too familiar with this but I know its invisible and you can see the results quickly. Has anyone had any familiar conditions or had Invisalign? Do you have any opinions about the subject or suggestions? We were also thinking about metal braces for a few short months then switch to Invisalign once her teeth are somewhat moved. Although its a pricey decision, we are considering it.

Braces Versus Invisalign? Other Condition.?
She does not sound like a candiate for Invisalign. She should just stick with the conventional braces. Much better response. She won't look funny. At her age, all the kids have them. I use Invisalign (and I am 30) and I had to have brackets placed on my lower teeth because they simply were not moving.

Good luck!!
Reply:your ortho.knows best,ask him/her.

Both work good, but it's really up to your financial situation.
Reply:Despite their claims, the Invisalign folks really can't solve many common orthodontic problems, and if your daughter is having the "expose and bond" procedure (the deal w/ the surgeon and chain!) then things are WAY beyond the ability of invisalign to handle!

It MAY be possible to switch to invis. after a year or so, once things are headed in the right direction, but this is something only your orthodontist can tell you. (I hate to say it, cuz I don't like it when people come on here and just say, "oh, ask your dentist!" well duh....it's not like that didn't occur to someone...they just want other opinions!)

My opinion is that invisalign is good for some limited cases but is mostly a lot of hype and advertising, playing on people's esthetic concerns. Your daughter shoudl be told she can look "nicer" in the short run, or she can get it done RIGHT. Ask her if she wants to still be fooling around w/ ortho when she's 17...20...25 or get it done faster now! Ask her if she wants to be PAYing for it when she's no longer under your roof!!

good luck!
Reply:Ok just too let you know shes 14 so if you are gonna get her regular braces get the clear/white/invisible ones because I know how teens are. Im a teen and even if she doesnt look funny with them on I know people will still make fun of her! I wouldnt want that to happen to anyone.
Reply:I do NOT agree that Invisalign is a "lot of hype". I've seen it have great results in the hands of a well-qualified dentist.

However, it is true that Invisalign is not appropriate for all cases and it seems that your daughter's case would best be served by traditional braces.

For one thing 14 is a little young for Invisalign. Much of the results depend on patient compliance since the aligners are removable. Kids that age tend to take them out and lose them, so Invisalign is usually recommended for older teens or adults.

Since many of her friends have braces, it really won't be much of a stigma to be wearing them. She'll get used to the look and feel in a short time and the results will be worth it.
Reply:When I had to put my brace on, my ortho would have liked to make me wear an invisible one. He contacted Invisalign but he was told that my dental situation wasn't adequate for their kind of braces, so I had to put on a traditional one.

Has your ortho already contacted Invisalign, sending them your daughter's teeth's photos? Invisalign almost costs as much as a normal brace, but the producing buisness is very selective. Tell your daughter that, if she won't be able to be included among Invisalign's criteria, it won't be a drama wearing a traditional braces. Moreover, Invisalign could reject her because she's too young, in fact they prefer to work for adults. At the age of fourteen, your daughter's skeletal structure isn't completed yet.

Come on, if she'll have to wear a traditional brace she won't die: I mean, it is just for a couple of months. What should I say, having to wear it until 2009?

Invisalign...pls help?

i want to get invisalign from india, hw long will i need to put it? and will i need to see a dentist here? if so, can it be a normal dentist? or will it have to b an indian dentist? or a dentist spcialised in invisalign.

Invisalign...pls help?
Invisalign is usually done by an orthodontist (dentist who specializes in braces) as you will need to be seen for an evaluation (xrays, and models of your teeth) prior to treatment. In addition, you will be monitored throughout the whole process as the orthodontist will be giving you the new invisalign trays to wear as you progress in treatment. Here is the website link so you can attempt to search for a dentist -

Good luck!

Reply:just make sure it's covered by insurance

some companies refuse to cover it because it's considered "cosmetic" (alternative to braces)
Reply:The only dentists who can provide you with invisalign have to be trained by the company first. Once they are trained they can check you to see if you are even a candidate. Not all people can use the invisalign program. After you have been screened, you have to see your dentist on a regular basis so they can check your progress to make sure that things are going in the right direction. Also, you will only get 3 aligners at a time, which work for about 6 weeks. So, while i dont know what is offered in India, you can go to the invisalign website and find a dentist.

Invisalign and two front teeth?

My ortho suggested that I should get invisalign except my two front teeth are very crooked (they slant towards each other, but not TREMENDOUSLY but you can tell). everything else is alright.

will invisalign really fix this problem or is my ortho just trying to get money out of this?

Invisalign and two front teeth?
it will work, but it will be up to you how fast and how long they will stay straight afterwards.

invisalign is series of trays that you will wear and change. afterwards, you will need to wear a retainer or else your teeth will shift closely to how your teeth were positioned before.

INVISALIGN!!! did it work for you?

I only have an over bite and and little bit of tight spacing on my bottoms...

HELP...

did the invisalign work for you and is it a good idea for me to get invisalign because i am NOT getting braces!

INVISALIGN!!! did it work for you?
My mom said that invisalign works ok but braces are better! you wont have to have them on very long so i think you should just get braces! call my mommy and ask her about it!
Reply:Dental Hygienist here and I think Invisalign is awesome. My husband had it done and other than being a little more expensive it was great. So easy....just wearing a series of clear retainers actually. He was amazed at the results and looks great. I'm not sure it will easily correct an overbite because that usually involves moving the posterior teeth which requires some good pressure. Can't hurt to check it out. Lot's of orthodontists will do a free or reduced first visit b/c they are hoping to get your $ later!
Reply:Here the truth, They really work but they are a little bit slower and also that you NEED all your teeth to be erupted to have them......

Braces arent that bad but it has its up and downs just like invisalign.....

braces sometimes break off....

invisalign breaks sometimes...

its really your choice

and invisalign does work....

-good luck...
Reply:Invisalign is being used with more and more different types of smile corrections just like the type of movements your smile needs---your situation is TOTALLY worth looking into to see if you are a candidate for Invisalign.

It is good for many different types of movement and with a WELL TRAINED INVISALIGN DOCTOR---he/she will be able to maximize the types of attachments that Invisalign treatment cases need for the more fancy movements like moving the posterior teeth (molars) rotating teeth, intruding teeth, extruding teeth---So that you can avoid conventional metal braces.

Get the free consultation--- many Invisalign docs provide a free Invisalign consultation to answer cost and length of treatment questions for you.

From what you have shared--- it certainly sounds like you are a candidate for Invisalign.

Sincerely, Tina
Reply:Just get braces geez

Invisalign process?

Can someone explain to me the steps in which you go through in getting invisalign !

invisalign records and braces records are these same or different!

Also is there a price involved in this consultation!!!!!

Any answers welcome

Invisalign process?
You must first have a consultation with your dentist. Some will provide this free of charge. If it is determined that Invisalign would be a good fit for you, you will schedule an appointment to have molds taken of your mouth. They will also take photographs of your teeth.

The photographs and molds will be sent to the Invisalign laboratory, which will make a computer model of your teeth and develop a treatment plan. They will then send this back to your dentist. If everything looks OK, the dentist will tell the lab to proceed and the lab will begin to make your plastic trays.

When your trays are ready, your dentist will bring you in and apply bonded brackets to some of your teeth. These hold the trays on and enable teeth movement. This does not hurt and requires no anesthetic. In some cases, the dentist will need to make small spaces between certain teeth. This may be done before treatment starts or at a later date, when the movement requires it.

You will get your first set of trays on the same day. You change the set every two weeks or so. Your dentist will generally give you two or three sets to take home with you. If you experience pain or if the bite feels off when you change the set, go back to your dentist and he can adjust the trays accordingly.

Invisalign can fix most problems, but if you have more severe orthodontic problems, such as a pronounced over/underbite, you may need to go with regular metal braces.
Reply:They're diff. b'cause with traditional braces you were the same thing for 2-3 years depending on how bad your teeth are, with invisilighne- I know I spelled it wrong- you were between 18-30 sets of plastic braces for 15 months. and you change the braces every 5- 7 weeks. They usually cost around 2,000 to 3,000 dollars wayless than the traditional braces.
Reply:I've had terrible teeth for years, and so for the past several months I've been wearing invisalign braces to straighten them out. I did have to pay for my consultation where they took moulds, and photographs and shipped it off to invisalign themselves. I had to put down a deposit of $1800 when it was approved (the whole thing cost me about $5000) but most places are good and they're allowing me to pay in installments.

Getting moulds taken of your teeth SUCKs and it takes a few weeks for the trays to come, but your dentist will show you a digital mark up of your teeth and the pattern that they're going to move in over the entire treatment time. It's really cool, so you can look at it and know when your teeth will look nicer! He'll then glue little buttons to your teeth and give your first retainer.

And yes, they are -completely- invisible. When he put it on my teeth, it practically disappeared before my eyes. And it always surprises people when I go to eat something and take the retainer off - because they don't notice it at ALL. Don't even notice the buttons! It's incredible.

It is a huge undertaking though, you need to be dedicated to wearing them (because it's very easy to not want to - especially if you snack often.) and you need to clean your teeth every time you put them back in, else food gets stuck to them and stuff and it's not fun. When you put a new aligner in (I hate doing that) it's also a pain in the butt to get off for a day or two because it's so tight on your teeth.

The other thing about them that sucks is that you might need your teeth "Slenderized" - read: Shaved - so that they can rotate and move properly. I went in today actually to have the edges of some of my teeth filed down, which doesn't hurt at -all-, but can be weird.

The retainers do stain, too. So no drinking koolaid with them in. Although if you rinse them in mouthwash and give them a good scrubbing with a toothbrush you can clean them quite well. I'm also on a 10 day rotation (rather than the usual 14) so if your retainers DO discolour, you'll put a new, clean, clear retainer in by the time anyone even notices.

All my friends that have ever had track braces are seethingly jealous. There's no elastics, no wires cutting into my gums, no hugely painful tightenings, and you can't see them! The treatment is also a lot faster since you can completely coordinate what teeth move and when they do it. It's awesome! Definitely worth it.

Invisalign braces?

ok well I'm 14 and I'm just getting braces on..but obviously, like any other teenager I don't want them to be seen..I was just wondering if the invisalign system (it's new) would be o.k. for me..my teeth aren't too bad but I have a cross bite.. so..you dentists out there..any information on invisalign? please and thanks! =]

Invisalign braces?
Invisalign really isn't for people who still have their wisdom teeth in, but my orthodontist didn't tell me that. They have a 50% failure rate for people with wisdom teeth. I had them for about six months, and after that they just wouldn't fit in my mouth, which really sucked. I ended up getting braces in the long run, and I wasted a lot of time with the Invisalign. They take a lot longer then normal braces. Also, regular braces are better because you can get precise results, Invisalign doesn't give perfect results. Honestly, if you are concerned with how they look, get the sapphire braces, or the ceramic ones. They are hardly noticeable, and it goes by much quicker. I had the sapphire ones, and I had people say "did you just get braces" a year after I've had them.
Reply:Invisalign is not for everyone. You need to be evaluated by an orthodontist to see if you're even a candidate. Also, Invisalign costs a lot more than regular braces. I've had braces for a year now. I was okayed for Invisalign, but opted for regular braces when my ortho explained that the Invisalign would only close the spaces between my teeth and not do anything to re-align my bite. What I did get though was ceramic braces on top and regular metal on the bottom. The ceramic brackets look like your teeth. It doesn't even look like I'm wearing braces when I smile. Several people have been surprised to find out I even have braces after they've spent I don't know how much time around me and never noticed them before. I saw a photo someone took of me a couple months ago and I couldn't even tell I had braces on. The bottom teeth don't need ceramics as they don't really show when you talk or smile.
Reply:Everyone is different and Invisalign is not for everyone, despite what some commercials, or people say. Too, invisalign can't do everything...like correct a crossbite. You would be better off with clear brackets. Braces can correct a lot more with greater detail. Don't worry! So many people, kids, teens and adults now have them. You'll fit right in!

Invisalign and overbite?

im going to the an orthodontist consultation this week to speak to him about invisalign. not to brag, but my teeth are close to perfect with the exception of a not so bad overbite and one slightly crooked tooth. the money isnt an object. can invisalign help those problems? thanks.

Invisalign and overbite?
The main limitation of Invisalign is space between teeth and over and underbites. Depending on the severity Invisalign can reduce these but might not fully fix them. Up to 3 mm of overbite should not be a problem to and experienced doctor.
Reply:idk. i got braces today.
Reply:you can get invisilign, because im going through the same process
